2 P.M.
Hey everyone. Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings yesterday with the comment about not calling. The point I was trying to get across is that it makes it really hard for us when we've already decided what we're doing and we let people know, and they try to convince us to do something else. It's not that we're being stubborn or inflexible or anything. Also, the comment was NOT aimed at one specific person. It was just a general comment. Anyway....
At 11 a.m., the storm looked like it was going along the projected path, probably making landfall somewhere around Mobile and Gulf Shores, Alabama. We're under a hurricane warning, and the base is in Hurcon 2 (winds of 50 knots or greater will arrive in 24 hours). As of now, Harrison county (our county) has not issued even a voluntary evacuaution order. Some parishes (counties) in Louisiana have issued them, but that is only because their levee systems are not in great shape and they're worried about flooding. We will be heading to the shelter on base around 9 a. m. tomorrow morning. I plan on posting once in the morning before we leave, and from then on, we probably won't be able to get in touch with anyone. There is no cell service in the shelter unless you go right by the door, and I don' plan on doing that until after everything has passed. We are using Matthew as our go between, so if you can't get ahold of us and get worried, just call him and he wil keep you updated. Also, there are some websites you can check out that have live local cams, but they may go out as the weather worsens and the wind picks up. Here they are:
www.wlox.com
www.mstraffic.com (area format drop down box, list cameras)(I-10 Westbound at Cowan/Lorraine Rd(Gulfport/Biloxi line),I-10 Eastbound at Cowan/Lorraine Rd,MS 609 at US 90,US 90 Ocean Springs East,US 90 Ocean Springs West,I-110 at US 90,US 90 at Porter Street(closest to us),US 49 at DeDeaux Rd(Gulfport),US 49 at Creosote Rd(Gulfport))
I hope these help keep everyone calm now that you can actually see what is happening. I'll continue to keep everyone posted.
